The Lodge on Amherst Island is a retreat, workplace and small conference venue where artists, writers, musicians and others come to work alone or as a group.
The Lodge features a old style grand living room, a large dining room, a well equipped kitchen, and a large sun room that doubles as a studio workshop and a deck overlooking Stella Bay. In addition to The Lodge, there is a fully equipped 2 bedroom cottage and a smaller single bedroom cottage.
Amherst Island, the “first of the Thousand Islands” is located at the eastern end of Lake Ontario, 22 km west of Kingston. All year round, a ferry connects the mainland to the island. It runs hourly from 6:30 am to 1:30am every day. Among the local residents are several well-known artists who display and sell their art at the Weasel & Easel. The Neilsen Store and Museum acquaints visitors with local history and artifacts.
The Lodge is an easy walk from the ferry through Stella. Located on Stella point, shoreline borders two sides of The Lodge property. Wooded areas abundant with oaks, maples, elms, evergreens and magnificent lilacs blend with grassy open spaces and the readily accessible shore. Stella Bay can harbor deep-water craft and swimming is a pleasure off both shores.
Built in 1880, the two-storey, six bedroom Lodge can accommodate groups of up to fifteen people, and is ideal for small conferences and workshops. Larger groups can find additional accommodations nearby.
The Lodge is available for booking all year round: meals and snacks can be self catered or catered by the wonderful staff at The Lodge for an additional cost.
